82nd Airborne - Fort Bragg, North Carolina (18 images)
Salerno dropzone activities involving Air Force C17 Globemaster and C-130 Hercules aircraft. Two Airborne soldiers that jumped first from the C-17 I learned were the Commanding General of Fort Bragg and his Aide using MC1-1C parachutes. These are the parachutes that have vents that allow the solider to steer the parachute. All other parachutists used the venerable T-10D in their jump, which provides a solider with a 17.5 feet per second decent. The parachute weighs 31 lbs fully assembled.
